In the mountainous Jaltenango region of Chiapas, more than 300 families have joined together in the local producer organization “La Tribu,” working across the Jaltenango area and the Sierra Madre mountain range. In recent years, Bean Voyage has developed a close partnership with this organization, with special focus on 65 women-led farms.
These women not only grow high-quality coffee — they are actively strengthening the sustainability of their farms and building resilient family businesses. Despite the challenges smallholder coffee producers often face, they continue to invest in soil health, expand their knowledge, and create a safer, more independent future for themselves and their communities. Here, coffee becomes a tool for economic independence and shared progress.
This year, the collaboration resulted in a decaf coffee lot named “Vayichil” — a word meaning “to dream” in Tzotzil, one of the Mayan languages spoken in many Chiapas communities. The name reflects both the care that goes into producing this coffee and the producers’ vision for their future.
Decaffeination takes place in Veracruz using the Mountain Water Process, which preserves the coffee’s flavor nuances and complexity while highlighting its natural sweetness and gentle, balanced character. It is a coffee you can enjoy at any time of day, without sacrificing depth of flavor, traceability, or values-driven origin.
We are proud to work with La Tribu and to offer Vayichil — a coffee rooted in local language, land, and community leadership, reflecting the work of women producers on their path toward a more sustainable and fair coffee future.
